Visit with the VP in pics

SUMMER '08 IN AFRICA

Since June 16, 2008, the Walker Family has been in Africa (Accra, Freetown and Monrovia). It has been seven years since the Walker kids (Denise Korposio, Emmanuel Nagbe and Joel Nyamieh) left Africa, so for them, it was a needed trip.

There is so much to share: our pains and pleasures, joys and sorrows. Please give us a call if you need some personal stories and pics: 719-574-0376

In Freetown (June 20-26), the kids were able to see Dee's Dad and Mom along with several aunts, uncle, nieces and nephews. Dr. Conteh of Radio Life Venture, a HCJB partner, provided lodging. Dee held several key meetings with Dr. Conteh and Ransford Wright of Believers' Broadcasting Network (BBN) on issues pertinent to HCJB's initiative in the country.

In Monrovia, Dee and Joseph Kebbie (Training Coordinator of HCJB Global in Sub-Saharan Africa) teamed up to conduct training at Radio ELWA. It was a refreshing time.

The Walkers also took time off to visit Liberia's Vice Presdient, Hon. Joseph Boakai and the second lady, Madam Boakai at their residence.

The Walkers returned to Accra, Ghana on July 7th. Thanks for your prayers.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

It seems like just yesterday when we were planning for this consultation in Accra, Ghana. Well, I (Dee) am on the road again. I leave on Saturday for Ghana (arriving on Sunday, Feb. 24th).
Please pray our partners who will be coming from all over Sub-Saharan Africa for this consultation. Click the following link to read about the consultation featured in an interview I had with Mission Network News:

I am really grateful to God for our team in Africa. As I transition into the new role, one of my goals is to craft ways that the team will experience my desire to shepherd. So, after the consultation in Ghana and meetings with the team in Ghana, I will be off to Malawi to meet with our medical team. I am really looking forward to this time. Please pray for traveling mercies.

New Year Greetings!

Wow! We are in 2008!

Bendu and the kids join me in thanking you for your joyful participation in our lives.

My (Dee) schedule for this New Year is already full: couple of trips to Africa, one to Europe, and bunch of meetings (for consultation and training). We covet your prayers for good health, wisdom and an outpouring of love as we interact with people around the world.

We wish you and yours God's richest blessings this year. We pray that we will continue to experience Isaiah 41:10 this year.

In His grip,

Dr. Dee

Training

Training is integral to our strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa. We are confident that as we train (engage, equip and empower) our partners, they can carry on their ministries, even when we are not there.
Theovision International, one of our strategic partners, holds a high view of training, so we are working with them in identifying not just their training needs, but to identify a champion within their organization that will provide leadership in training.

LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

Curt Cole, VP for International Ministries recently announced, “At the end of March next year (’08), Dee Walker will become the next Executive Director for the Sub-Saharan Africa Region and Lee will transition to a role as Associate Director for Media. Dee and his family are continuing to work on immigration issues with the U.S. government, which is not an easy task. We hope these issues will be resolved in about two more years. Until then Dee will serve the region from Colorado Springs. I believe this transition allows both Dee and Lee to use their gifts and skill sets to maximize ministry. I remember back when Lee was heavily recruiting Dee for HCJB Global, and Lee told me that Dee would be the future director in the region one day. How encouraging to see a leader like Lee mentor his own successor! I am deeply grateful to Lee and Michelle for their nearly 10 years of service in the top leadership role in SSA.”

Please continue to pray for our families as we face this transition. Our relationship with the Soniuses dates back to over 20 years, and we enjoy a very amicable working relationship. This leadership transition marks a very significant milestone in the western missionary and local national relationship.
